TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women's golf team was named the National Team of the Week on Monday by Golfweek for the second straight week following the Crimson Tide's victory at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational.
The second-ranked Tide, who fell behind No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 5 Florida midway through the final round, rallied on the back nine to finish at 25-over 865 to defeat the Sooners by three shots and Gators by five shots. Alabama's final round 286 equaled the lowest round in the 15-team field on Sunday.
UA shot 286 in round one and was one shot back of Oklahoma entering day two. The winds picked up in the second round and scoring became much more difficult as the Tide moved to the top of the leader board with a 293 that was the second-best score of the round.
Stephanie Meadow paced the Crimson Tide individually with a tie for fourth place at 4-over-par 214. She carded rounds of 68, 74 and 72. Senior Jennifer Kirby led the way in the final round with an even-par 70. Freshman Emma Talley and junior Hannah Collier added rounds of 72 on the final day.
The win gave Alabama its first win at the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational and four wins in five tournaments dating back to the fall schedule. The Tide has won back-to-back event with a victory Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and then with win in Gainesville, Fla.
The Crimson Tide has four weeks off before returning to play at the PING ASU Invitational on April 12-14 at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
