RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The Alabama women's golf team opens the 2014 spring schedule Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on the par-72, 6,300-yard River Course at the Wyndham Rio Resort and Mar Country Club.
The 10th-ranked Crimson Tide, who won the Landfall Tradition to close out the fall schedule, has won the Lady Puerto Rico Classic the last four times they participated (2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013) and will be looking to capture the team title for the fifth time in the last seven years.
Hosted by Purdue, the 15-team field consists of the Crimson Tide, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 29 Auburn, Augusta State, Georgia, No. 18 Iowa State, No. 31 Kent State, Michigan, Missouri, No. 21 North Carolina State, No. 19 Northwestern, No. 44 TCU, Tennessee and Texas Tech.
Alabama's lineup will consist of senior Stephanie Meadow, sophomore Emma Talley, sophomore transfer Janie Jackson, junior Daniela Lendl and redshirt freshman Cammie Gray. The Crimson Tide will also have true freshman Mia Landegren competing as an individual.
Meadow leads the team with a 70.75 scoring average and ranks as the No. 2 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Talley is second on the team with a 72.33 average and ranks 27th in the Golfweek/Sagarin, while Lendl (74.55) is in 75th.
Following the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, the Crimson Tide's next event is scheduled for Feb. 23-25 at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans.
