Women's Golf Opens Spring Slate at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Alabama women's golf team opens the 2013 spring schedule Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on the par-72, 6,300-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort. The Crimson Tide has won the Puerto Rico Classic the last three times they participated (2008, 2010 and 2011) and will be looking to capture the team title for the fourth time in the last sixth years. Hosted by No. 9 Purdue, the 15-team field consists of the Crimson Tide, No. 13 Arkansas, No. 33 Auburn, No. 42 Indiana No. 25 Iowa State, Kent State, No. 28 Kentucky, Michigan, No. 19 North Carolina State, Nebraska, No. 23 Northwestern, No. 36 SMU, TCU and No. 20 Texas Tech. Alabama's lineup will consist of senior Jennifer Kirby, junior Stephanie Meadow, junior Hannah Collier, true freshman Emma Talley and sophomore Daniela Lendl. The Crimson Tide will also have Johanna Tillström competing as an individual. Meadow leads the team with a 71.67 scoring average and ranks as the No. 11 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Kirby is second on the team with a 72.89 average and ranks 45th in the Golfweek/Sagarin, while Emma Talley (73.00) is close behind in 50th. Following the Puerto Rico Classic, the Crimson Tide's next event is scheduled for Feb. 24-26 at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans.
