Women's Golf Finishes Second at Liz Murphey Fall Preview
Oct. 7, 2012
The Crimson Tide entered the day one shot ahead of the Tar Heels and five shots behind Auburn. North Carolina (+12, 876) shot 2-over 290 in the final round to earn the win while the Tide finished at 16-over 880.
Auburn (303 Sunday) and Southern California ( 291) tied for third place at 19-over 883 while host Georgia rounded out the top five at 23-over 887.
"We played much better early in the round, which I thought would give us a chance to win the tournament," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "We didn't make the birdies coming in today like we did the first two days. We had the chances, but we did not capitalize on the putts. We showed a tremendous improvement over or first tournament and if we keep that up we should be fine."
Freshman Emma Talley recorded her second consecutive solid outing with an even-par 72. The Princeton, Ky., native posted a top 20 with a tie for 16th at 3-over 291, including a 1-under total over the final 36 holes.
Alabama concludes the fall schedule on Oct. 28-30 at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
