ATHENS, Ga. - The Alabama women's golf team is tied for fifth after the first round of the Liz Murphey Fall Preview at the par-72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Crimson Tide shot 8-over-par 296 and are just two-shots back of second place UCLA (+6, 294) with Auburn leading after 18 holes at 1-under-par 287. Southern California and Denver are tied for third at 7-over 295 with the Tide tied with host Georgia.
"At the end of the day it turned out to be a pretty good round after getting off to a really rough start," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "We shot under par on the back nine to finish at 8-over. We made some birdies on the way in, and it started to feel like the old us. I am looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully we can keep the momentum we got going on the back nine today."
Meadow, who hails from Jordanstown, Northern Ireland, led the Crimson Tide with a 2-under-par round of 70. She carded four birdies and two bogeys, including three straight birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15th. UCLA's Erynne Lee leads individually after shooting 4-under 68.
Birmingham's Hannah Collier is tied for sixth at 1-under 71. She birdied the 16th and 18th holes to finish under par for her round.
Freshman Emma Talley was the Tide's third score at 4-over 76 while senior Jennifer Kirby was the fourth score with a 79. Courtney McKim was the drop score with an 80.
Alabama will play with Georgia and Denver in the second round and are scheduled to tee off at 7:50 a.m.
