Final Results GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
Alabama's No. 2-ranked women's golf team finished one shot back of host Florida on Sunday during the final round of the Gator Women's Invitational on the par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.
The Crimson Tide entered the day even with the Gators, who made a big move up the leader board on Saturday. Florida finished Sunday's third and final round at 7-over-par 287 while the Tide posted an 8-over-par round of 288 to finish second for the third time this season. UA's totaled 865 strokes during the 54-hole event to the Gators' 864.
"When it really got down to the wire with about three holes to play we threw a ton of shots away," Alabama head coach Mic Potter. "By our standards I don't think we played very well, especially the last two days. You have to keep learning and hopefully there is a lesson in it. Bottom line is that we lost focus down the stretch and made too many mistakes when we couldn't afford them."
Florida State finished third at 32-over-par 872 with Georgia in fourth at 37-over 877 while Duke rounded out the top five with a 42-over 877. South Florida, Auburn and Arkansas all finished tied for sixth at 45-over 885. FSU's Maria Salinas captured medalist honors at 4-under-par 206.
Sophomore Stephanie Meadow paced Alabama for the third time this season with an even-par 210, finishing tied for fourth position. She carded a 2-under-par 68 in the final round after posting a pair of 71s in the opening two rounds.
Senior Brooke Pancake entered the day tied for fifth place but struggled home with a 6-over-par 76 to finish tied for 11th. Junior Jennifer Kirby joined her in a tie for 11th, shooting 2-over 72 on Sunday for an 8-over-par 218 total.
Sophomore Hannah Collier rebounded from a 77 in the second round to post a 3-over par 73 in the final round to finish in a tie for 20th at 10-over 220. Johanna Tillström counted toward the Tide team total for the first time in Gainesville with a 5-over-par 75, finishing tied for 52nd overall.
Alabama returns to action on March 30-April 1 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted by the University of Georgia at the UGA Golf Club.
