The second-ranked Alabama women's golf team struggled to navigate its way around the par-72, 6,105-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club on Tuesday in windy and wet conditions during the final round of the weather-delayed 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
The Crimson Tide shot 20-over-par 308 on Tuesday during the second and final round to finish in a tie (with Baylor) for seventh place at 17-over 593. It was the highest round of the year for the Tide by 12 shots and left UA 13 shots behind Southern California and UCLA who tied for first at 4-over-par 580 (USC won the playoff). Duke finished third at 583 while host Tulane (589) and Purdue (591) rounded out the top five.
Junior Stephanie Meadow finished tied for eighth to pace the Alabama scoring at even-par 144. She shot 4-under 68 in Sunday's opening round and followed it with a 76 in the final round. Baylor's Hayley Davis captured medalist honors at 4-under 140.
Senior Jennifer Kirby and sophomore Daniela Lendl posted UA's next-best scores on the final day of play at 5-over 77. Kirby finished tied for 20th at 3-over 147 while Lendl was tied for 45th at 8-over 152. Hannah Collier was the Tide's fourth counting score with a 78 while finishing tied for 35th at 6-over 150. Emma Talley was the drop score on Tuesday with a 79. She finished tied for 60th at 10-over 154.
Alabama returns to the course looking to defend its title at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on March 8-10 at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Meadow is also the reigning medalist after posting 5-under 137 in another rain-shortened event.
