The Alabama women's golf team is tied for fourth after the first two rounds of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Monday at the par 72, 6,140-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.
The Crimson Tide shot 1-over 289 in the morning round and even-par 288 in the afternoon for a 1-over 577. UA is tied with Oklahoma State, 15 shots back of UCLA, who shot a tournament record 277 in round two and stand at 14-under 562. Southern California is second at 10-under 566 with Florida in third at 4-under 572.
"It was definitely a big improvement in play over last week in Puerto Rico," head coach Mic Potter said. "It was long day with 36 holes and the team kept its focus really well. We still have some things to work on, but we are seeing progress, and we have to keep moving forward tomorrow."
Junior Danielle Lendl set the pace for the Crimson Tide Monday, firing a 2-under 70 on the opening 18 holes and following that up with an even-par 72 in the second round. She is tied for ninth at 2-under 142. Senior Stephanie Meadow is one shot back in a tie for 12th at 1-under 143 after rounds of 71 and 72 on Monday.
Sophomore Emma Talley shot 3-over 75 in the first round but was the only Alabama player to break 70 on the day with a 3-under 69 in the second round. She is tied for 18th at even-par 144. Janie Jackson carded rounds of 73 and 75 and is tied for 44th at 4-over 148 while Cammie Gray shot 75-79 and is tied for 76th.
Competing as an individual, Hannah Collier put together a solid 72 in the first round and followed that with a 76 in the afternoon for a tie for 44th.
Alabama will play with Oklahoma State and Clemson in Tuesday's final round, which will get underway at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
