NEW ORLEANS - The second-ranked Alabama women's golf team is three shots off the lead in fourth place at the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Sunday at the par-72, 6,105-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.

The Crimson Tide shot 3-under-par 285 with tournament host Tulane carding a 6-under 282 to take the opening-round lead. No. 3 Duke and No. 22 UCLA are tied for second at 5-under 283. Florida rounds at the top five at 2-under 286 while No. 1 Southern California is sixth at 1-under 287.

Junior Stephanie Meadow led the Alabama attack on Sunday with a 4-under-par 68 and is tied for second after 18 holes. She is one shot back of tournament leader Emily Penttila of Tulane (67). Meadow played the front side at 3-under 33 with four birdies and a bogy. She then carded eight pars and a single birdie on the back nine.

Senior Jennifer Kirby fired a 2-under 70 in the first round and is tied for seventh. She opened her round with eight pars before making birdies on the 10th, 12th and 18th holes with the lone blemish on her scorecard a bogey on the par-4 14th.

Junior Hannah Collier is tied for 20th at even-par 72 while Emma Talley and Daniela Lendl both shot 3-over 75 to tie for the final-counting score. Talley and Lendl are tied for 54th headed into Monday's second round.

Alabama is slated to tee off at 9 a.m. Monday and will play the second round with Florida and Southern California.
