The Alabama women's golf team fell to ninth place on Monday after shooting a 15-over 303 in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on the par-72, 6,191-yard River Course at the Wyndham Rio Resort and Mar Country Club.
The 10th-ranked Crimson Tide (+22, 598) fell well of the pace as Arkansas (-5, 571) widened its lead to 13 shots over second place GRU Augusta (+8, 584). The Razorbacks shot 5-under 283 in the second round and Augusta carded a 1-under 287. Northwestern in third at 15-over 591 with Georgia fourth (+166, 592) while Iowa State and North Carolina State are tied for fifth at 18-over 594.
Senior Stephanie Meadow became the first Alabama player to break par in Puerto Rico with a 4-under-par 68. She carded six birdies and a double bogey on her round to move into a tie for fifth place at 1-under 143. It was Meadow's seventh sub-par round this year (14 total rounds). Purdue's Aurora Kan has the individual lead at 5-under 139.
Redshirt freshman Cammie Gray continued her solid play with a 2-over 74 on Monday after recording a birdie and bogey on the front nine and a double bogey on the 17th hole. The Northport, Ala., native is tied for 15th at 2-over 146.
The bottom three players in the Alabama lineup is where the Crimson Tide ran into trouble in the second round. Daniela Lendl shot 8-over 80 to fall into a tie for 49th at 10-over while Emma Talley shot the highest total of her 47-round career at 9-over 81. Janie Jackson's score of 82 was dropped for the team score on Tuesday.
Tuesday's third round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will be a shotgun start with Alabama teeing off holes 9-12 at 5:30 a.m. (CST or 7:30 a.m. AST). The Crimson Tide will be paired with Tennessee, Kent State and Texas Tech.
