TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The Crimson Tide women's basketball team (7-4) will take part in its final road game of 2011 on Saturday, Dec. 17, against Alabama State (2-4). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, Ala.
"We need to be ready to play from the start," said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. "We are coming off two tough road games and had final exams this week, but we have been making practices a little tougher so we can be better prepared when we are playing on the road."
Saturday's game marks the 17th time the two teams have faced each other. Alabama leads the series 13-3, which includes a 49-point victory in Tuscaloosa last season.
The Tide has had a six-day break from game action, but will be looking to rebound after falling last time out at NC State. Alabama was led in scoring by junior Jessica Merritt and sophomores Shafontaye Myers and Jasmine Robinson, who all put up 11 points for the Tide. Alabama shot 43.8 percent from the field, but was unable to stop the Wolfpack in the paint where they had 46 points including 18 second chance points.
The Lady Hornets are coming off of a 60-53 loss to Troy. In Thursday's contest, Alabama State was led in scoring by senior Millicent Jones, who added 15 points. As a team, the Lady Hornets shot 32.8 percent (19-58) from the floor in the game, but managed just 18.2 percent (4-22) from the three-point line. Despite the loss, Alabama State led the game in rebounds (45), assists (14), steals (9) and blocks (3).
