The women's basketball team (1-0) will play its first road game of the 2012-13 season on Tuesday at Houston (0-1) in Hofheinz Pavilion. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. CT.
Tuesday's contest marks the fifth in the series between the Crimson Tide and Cougars and the first since Jan. 3, 2004. Houston holds a 3-1 lead, which includes a 76-70 victory in the previous meeting. Alabama's lone win against the Cougars came by a score of 93-80 on Dec. 20, 1991, in Tuscaloosa.
In its season opener, the Tide used a balance offensive attack to down Jacksonville State, 80-43. Junior Shafontaye Myers led all scorers with 19 points, while senior Alicia Mitcham recorded a game-best nine rebounds. For the game, Alabama forced 38 Gamecock turnovers, 20 of which were steals for the Tide. Alabama also held Jacksonville State to 26.1 percent shooting from the floor.
Houston will be facing its second Southeastern Conference opponent in as many games as the Cougars took on Mississippi State on Friday, losing 72-66 to the Lady Bulldogs. The teams were near identical from the floor, however Mississippi State dominated the glass, outrebounding Houston, 65-39. In addition, the Lady Bulldogs took advantage of their 34 trips to the free throw line, connecting on 24 shots. Senior Porsche Landry led the Cougars offensively with 16 points, while seven of Houston's newcomers accounted for the remaining 50 points.
