TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team will welcome Stillman College to Foster Auditorium on Monday for the Crimson Tide's lone exhibition game of the 2012-13 season. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT, and admission is free.
Despite being miles down the road from each other, Alabama and Stillman have only met twice on the hardwood. Monday's game marks the first time since the 1975-76 season that the two will play each other. The Lady Tigers are led by third-year head coach, and former Tide standout, Cassandra Crumpton Moorer.
Alabama, which went 12-19 last year, welcomes six new players and returns another eight from last year's squad. Among the newcomers is a pair of transfers from Rutgers in forward Briana Hutchen and point guard Daisha Simmons, forward Brittany Jack, who transferred from Samford and walked onto the team, as well as three true freshmen in guards Emily Davis and Jasmine Steele and forward Nikki Hegstetter. Also back in the lineup for Alabama is forward Kaneisha Horn, who sat out last season after having surgery to repair a torn ACL.
Four of last year's starters are back in guards Khristin Lee, Jessica Merritt, Meghan Perkins and Jasmine Robinson, as well as four other returnees in Celiscia Farmer, Alicia Mitcham, Shafontaye Myers and Erika Waters.
Stillman returns four players from its team that went 20-8 for the 2011-12 season, however it lost six letterwinners that averaged a combined 53 points and 30 rebounds per game.
Alabama will play its first regular season contest on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. CT against Jacksonville State. Season tickets are currently on sale for $40. Single-game tickets are also on sale for $5 each. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 1-877-TIDETIX (843-3849).
