TUSCALOOSA – The University of Alabama women’s basketball team will waste little time getting things rolling for the 2003-04 season as the Tide will open preseason practice bright and early on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
UA head coach Rick Moody, entering his 15th season at the helm of the Crimson Tide program, returns six players from last season and welcomes a group of eight newcomers including a trio of redshirt freshmen.
Saturday’s practice, that is open to the public, is the first opportunity for Bama fans to check out the new faces this year but it is not the only chance.
On Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., the Fastbreakers booster club will be sponsoring a “Tip It Off” BBQ lunch to celebrate the opening of the season. For $5, fans will get lunch plus the chance to watch an Alabama practice session with Moody using a wireless microphone to discuss the practice.
The women’s team will also join with the Bama men’s squad on Saturday, Oct. 25, for their annual Fan Day festivities at Coleman Coliseum. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. with the introduction of both teams. The two squads will go through some warm-up drills and then participate in a 3-point shooting contest. Following Fan Day activities, the Alabama women’s team will be available for autographs and pictures as part of the “Kickoff on the Quad” for the UA-Tennessee football game. The Bama women will appear in the Mayfield Dairy autograph tent from 12-12:45 p.m.
The Crimson Tide opens its playing season on Nov. 9 in an exhibition game against Berry College. Alabama tips off the regular season on Nov. 24 at Michigan and will face Jacksonville State on Dec. 2 in its home opener.
Season ticket packages are on sale now through the Alabama Athletic Ticket Office. For more information stop by the ticket office in the coliseum, check it out online at www.rolltide.com, or call them at 205-348-BAMA (2262).
