BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Sophomore Nikki Hegstetter
has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for women's basketball, which was announced by the league office this week.
Hegstetter, from Kennesaw, Ga., has played a big part in the Crimson Tide's volunteer efforts this season and has taken part in several activities which have included Habitat for Humanity, the Summer Food & Fun program at the McDonald Hughes Center, playing games and serving dessert to the residents of Capstone Village Retirement Community, assisting with the MDA Lock-Up event in Tuscaloosa, having lunch and making gingerbread houses with the students of the CrossingPoints transition program (students ages 18-21 with disabilities) and taking part in Huntington Place Elementary School's Hoops for Heart Event.
Additionally, she has assisted in several department initiatives including women's basketball's 5th Grade Fastbreak program, Project Angel Tree and the Halloween Extravaganza.
Hegstetter was also a nominee for the 2014 Allstate Women's Basketball Coaches Association Good Works Team.
