Women's Basketball Opens SEC Play at Texas A&M on Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (10-3) will take on Southeastern Conference newcomer Texas A&M (10-4) in the league opener on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
Thursday's game will be the first meeting between the Crimson Tide and Aggies. Alabama holds a 132-229 all-time record against SEC opponents and will be looking for its first win in an SEC opener since the 2004-05 season when it beat Kentucky, 69-39, on Jan. 9.
The Tide enters the game winners of its last four games. Alabama recently returned from Honolulu where it won the Bank of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Invitational with wins over Cincinnati (58-47), LIU Brooklyn (80-58) and Hawai'i (44-43).
As a team, Alabama ranks second in the nation in turnover margin (11.54) and also ranks No. 4 in the country in steals per game (14.5). Sophomore Daisha Simmons comes in at No. 29 in the nation in steals (3.2) while junior Shafontaye Myers is 38th in three-point field goals per game (2.69).
Texas A&M has won 10 of its last 11 games after starting the season 0-3. As a team, the Aggies rank 18th in the nation in field goal percentage (45.4), 14th in assists per game (17.6) and 20th in assist turnover ratio (1.11). Texas A&M is averaging 72.0 points per game, which is 14.9 points higher than its opponents.
Junior Kelsey Bone leads the team in scoring and rebounds with averages of 18.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Her 62.1 percent field goal percentage ranks fifth in the country. Senior Adrienne Pratcher has dished out a team-best 5.1 assists per game, which ranks her seventh in the NCAA.
