Head Coach Wendell Hudson
On finishing up the non-conference schedule:
“We finished up (the non-conference schedule) in a good way. We talked to this team about making little strides and getting better as a team. I thought our energy level was up really high to start the basketball game. We were playing together, but we just missed so many opportunities early. As far as effort was concerned on both ends of the court and sharing the basketball, we did fine. We had a lot of people with the stomach flu and some injuries when we came back to practice after the break, so we did a lot of talking as a team about what we needed to do to get better. I think the talking was as important to us as the practice was. There were times where we would practice for an hour twice a day, but we’ve started talking for 15 or 20 minutes on what we need to do as a team. I thought the team did a great job of evaluating themselves. Everybody is told a couple of pros and cons about themselves as a player and if you can understand that, then you can get better as a team and as a person. I think that’s really helped us. We talked about what was good and bad and about what we needed to work on. Mentally, we were ready to go. Physically, we still have a ways to go to get to where we need to be. We don’t have much time before we have to turn around and play again.”

On getting ready for SEC play:
“SEC play starts soon for us. South Carolina is a good basketball team. We played the way we needed to play tonight though. We haven’t played in 11 days, and you are not sure sometimes how that’s going to work out, especially with the injuries and limited practice time we’ve had. I was really happy with the effort we put in all night.”

On Kyra Crosby’s start:
“She’s not completely healthy from her injury, but we are trying to get her some more playing time. The only way she’s going to get into basketball condition is if she can react and come back. It’s not that anybody has done something as far as not starting, we just felt like we needed to get her in the game. After she warmed up and got in the game early it really helped in both halves.”

No. 21, Kyra Crosby, Forward
On coming back after the break:
“I am very happy with the way we came out after the break. We came back with a lot of energy, and we played together so I am pleased.”

On Air Force:
“The first half I feel that we underestimated them a little bit, but we got it together and Coach showed us what to do. Then we played together as a team.”

No. 10 Meghan Perkins, Forward
On her first career double-double:
“I worked on boxing out, rebounding, and going to the boards. We worked on that a lot this week in practice. The points came from my teammates being able to run the floor and find me.”

On her personal challenges in the game:
“Speed. They are fast and little. We are used to running up and down, but we are not used to playing teams that are able to run with us and they did. They actually challenged us. I think that in the second half we did a much better job of containing them.”
