Alabama Head Coach Wendell Hudson

Opening Statement:
“We opened the game shooting 1-for-11 in the first four minutes. You can’t play against anybody and shoot worse than that. The longer you let a team like Wofford stay in the game, the more confidence you give them and the more they think they’re going to win the basketball game. That’s exactly what happened. We were up 20-11, and the next seven possessions we turned it over and didn’t even get a shot against a half-court man-to-man defense. You can’t play any worse than that.”

On getting more shots but no one player stepping up:
“We had plenty of shots, and the way we shoot, we are going to shoot more than most teams, but you have to make more. We were 0-for-12 from three-point range, 6-for-10 from the free throw line, and we didn’t get to the basket. Part of not getting to the free throw line was we didn’t let the contact happen. We were moving the basketball and fading away, and that won’t work against anybody. We had 21 offensive rebounds, shot the ball 69 times, and we scored just 52 points. The way we play we need the game to be in the 70s and 80s to be successful. I have to give Wofford credit. They hung in there and did what they needed to do to win the game. They made every shot and free throw they needed to make.

On any bright spots in today’s game:
“Alicia Mitcham would be the bright spot right now. Shafontaye Myers was 0-for-6, Daisha Simmons was 2-for-7, Kaneisha Horn was 2-for-12 and Jasmine Robinson was 3-for-8. You add in those percentages from people we depend on, so when you get yourself in that position, these types of games can happen. I think there was a stretch in the game where Wofford wanted it more and was outhustling us to the basketball.”

On the crowd of fifth graders at the game today:
“The crowd was fun, just to be in this atmosphere and for them to come out and be able to scream a lot. It’s really good to hear them.”

On being disappointed with this loss:
“We just have some things we need to work on as a team. We have the day off tomorrow, but we are going to start Wednesday working on the things we need to improve on. We can’t dwell on this loss. We have to continue to move forward and get better as a basketball team.”

On the shooting in the game:
“We had a lot of open shots. We just have to knock them down when we get the opportunity.”

On making a run at the end:
“We did make a run, but the intensity we had at the end of the game, we have to have throughout the game.”

#3 Jasmine Robinson, Guard

On the defense:
“We were working together. We were trying so hard to dig ourselves out of the hole. We were rotating right and everybody was in the right position. That’s what caused a lot of turnovers for them.”

On a frustrating game:
“It was so frustrating because we had way too many turnovers, uncalled for turnovers that they didn’t even do. We had six turnovers straight at one period. It’s all about effort. Our turnovers were too high, and our effort wasn’t there.”

On everyone struggling to make shots:
“The shots were going to come. We always outshoot the other team. If we aren’t making the shots though, we have to stop somebody on defense. If we aren’t making shots then we need to stop them. That’s when we have to defense, but our effort just wasn’t there.”
