TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The women's basketball team defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 79-60, Saturday at Foster Auditorium to improve to 3-0 on the season. Senior Meghan Perkins and junior Jasmine Robinson led the Crimson Tide in scoring with 14 points apiece.
"I sit here and think we didn't play all that well, and we didn't, but we scored 79 points," said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. "We made them commit 40 turnovers. The game didn't go the way I would have liked for it to go, but the key to this whole thing was we never stopped playing. We didn't play as well as we have played before. When you don't play as well, and you still score 79 points and beat a team that made some shots and shot well from the free throw line, you cannot get too discouraged about everything."
Joining Perkins and Robinson in double figures was redshirt sophomore Kaneisha Horn, scoring 12 points, junior Shafontaye Myers with 11 points and sophomore Daisha Simmons, who added 10 points. Simmons also added a game-high seven steals and five assists.
Golden Lion senior LaKendra Marsh recorded a game-high 16 points, while senior Jenise Gentry collected a game-best six rebounds.
For the game, Alabama forced 40 turnovers, 23 of which were steals. The Tide also out-rebounded the Lions, 47-42, including a 25-11 advantage on the offensive glass.
Alabama returns to the court on Monday, Nov. 19, when it takes on North Texas. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased on RollTide.com, by phone by calling 1-877-TIDETIX (843-3849) or at the Athletic Ticket Office at Coleman Coliseum.
