The University of Alabama men’s cross-country team posted a fifth place finish at the NCAA South Region Cross Country championships this morning (November 15) held at the Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Alabama.

Josphat Waweru and Kevin McDonough paced the Crimson Tide posting 10th and 13th place finishes.  Waweru finished the 10k course in a time of 30:42.76 while McDonough posted a time of 30:49.20.  Both runners earned All-Region honors for their efforts.

Peter Etoot followed with a 29th place finish and a time of 31:18.94.  Tyler Stanfield (40th, 31:40.58), Gaiting Kara (42nd, 31:41.97), Sam Nuckols (65th, 32:22.07) and Kyle Cleveland (84th, 33:11.07) rounded out the scoring for the Tide.

The Georgia Bulldogs claimed the top spot in the meet with 37 points followed by the Florida State Seminoles with 64 points.  Florida and Tennessee placed third and fourth followed by Alabama with 132 total points giving the SEC four of the top five spots in the meet.

Waweru finished one spot short of advancing to the NCAA Championships as the top four individuals not competing for the top two finishing teams advance to the championships and Waweru’s 10th place finish was one spot shy of being the fourth finisher outside of Georgia and Florida.
