CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. The University of Alabama men’s cross country team opened their 2007 season with a 5K race at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Invitational Friday evening.
The Crimson Tide left their top two runners at home, Emmanuel Bor and Augustus Maiyo. Both Bor and Mayio competed in International games all summer long and are still recovering from those events, most recently the World University Games in Taiwan.
“Without Bor and Maiyo out lack of depth really showed,” Cross Country coach Joe Walker said. “We looked very good in the front three spots but after that we did not perform very well.”
Freshman Andrew Kirwa finished second overall in his first race for the Tide and junior Abraham Kutingala brought home a third place finish. Junior Titus Koeh was in fifth place for the Tide, giving the Tide three runners in the top five. The next Tide finisher was Paul Guevara in 25th place.
“It will be good to run at home next week and hopefully we have our full team ready to go,” Walker added.
The Tide will return to action on Friday, September 14, as they host the annual Crimson Classic at the Harry Prichett Cross Country Course.
