TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -

University of Alabama track and field and cross country head coach Dan Waters has announced the cross country team's 2011 schedule. The seven-date lineup features two home meets in the annual Crimson Classic and the NCAA South Region Championships.

Both the men's and women's teams begin their season on September 3 at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga., followed by a September 17 date in Nashville, Tenn., for the Commodore Classic.

A trip north to Louisville, Ky., for the Greater Louisville Classic on October 1 follows before the Crimson Tide returns home for the first of two meets on the Harry Pritchett Running Course with the Crimson Classic. The 23rd edition of the annual event will be staged on October 15 with the Tide welcoming teams from across the region for the event. Last season, the men's team easily won the 8-kilometer race while the women finished second by a narrow margin on the 5-kilometer course.

The Crimson Classic will also be the Tide's final competitive tune-up before the postseason begins on October 31 at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. The men's team, which finished as runner-up at last year's championships, will be gunning for its third SEC title in the past four years while the women's team aims to improve upon last season's sixth place finish.

Two weeks later on November 12,  the team will return to Tuscaloosa to host the NCAA South Region Championships where the men's team hopes to win its fifth-straight regional crown and sixth in the last seven years. Both the men's and women's teams will be racing for the opportunity to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships on November 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
