TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama men's track and field team concluded its outdoor season opener as hosts of the Alabama Relays sponsored by Beynon Sports Surfaces at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium. The Tide claimed three relay titles on Sunday.

"I don't think the meet could've gone any more perfect than it did," head track and field coach Harvey Glance said. "I think we won races that we thought we could win. It was a great showing all weekend long from the start to the finish. One true testament from this weekend was that we had about 60 alumni here, and I can't begin to tell how many times I heard how proud they are of our kids and our program."

In the high jump, freshman Mike Edwards led a 3-4 finish with a clearance of 6-10 3/4, while sophomore Tyler Campbell finished with a leap of 6-10 3/4 as well.

Alabama's 4x100m relay team claimed its first relay of the day with the squad of junior Brandon Spradley, freshman Kirani James and seniors Ray Jadusingh and Matthew Watson compiling a time of 40.24 - the sixth-fastest time in the nation this year.

"The 4x100m team, with the weather being this windy, they ran beyond my expectations," Glance said. "They beat two teams that competed at the NCAA Championships last year and for them to run the sixth-fastest time in the nation in conditions like these is very encouraging."

In the 4x1,500m relay, junior Andrew Kirwa and sophomores Nathan Corder, Austin Duckworth and Moses Kiptoo claimed the team's second title of the day with a time of 16:17.03.

Claiming its third title of the day, the Alabama distance medley relay team of juniors Fred Samoei, Spradley, Joel Rop and Julius Bor turned in a time of 9:57.58.

"It's been a pretty good meet for us and the guys competed well," Glance said. "They competed like a top-25 team and this is our opening meet. The guys showed a lot of heart. Our guys are in good shape. One of the things you worry about when you have a break in between indoor and outdoor with spring break is that the guys may not do anything and get out of shape. Obviously, our guys are showing they are where they need to be and our program is where it needs to be."

The final event of the day was the 4x400m relay in which the Alabama squad of James, Jadusingh, Watson and sophomore Aaron Stockstell finished second with a time of 3:10.58.

Up next, Alabama will travel to Gainesville for the Florida Relays, April 2-3.
