ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Kirani James set a school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 20.58 in the 200m at the Cherry & Silver Invitational Friday evening in Albuquerque, N.M.

James' time is the fastest in nation this season and set an Albuquerque Convention Center record by 0.16 seconds and bested the previous UA record of 20.71 set by Latonel Williams in 2003. Last season, James had an indoor best of 20.94

Also in action on Friday, Fred Samoei posted the top time in the 600m with a 1:20.12 finish.

In the field events, Tyler Campbell won the high jump by clearing 7-0.25 for the second week in a row while Jonathan Reid was third with a clearance of 6-10.25.

Freshman Kamal Fuller also took top honors in the long jump with of 24-9.0, the 10th best jump in the season. Fuller added nearly two inches to the jump he recorded in the season opener last weekend.

The rest of the Alabama men's track and field team will return to action Saturday morning during the second day of the Cherry & Silver Invitational.
