Alabama’s Luigi D’Agord won twice on Saturday to advance to the finals of the Crimson Tide Fall Championships.
D’Agord defeated Virginia’s Treat Huey 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals to clinch a spot in the championship match. D’Agord is now 12-3 on the season.
“I wasn’t expecting to advance to the finals when the tournament started,” D’Agord said. “I knew though that Huey was a good player and if I was going to make it to the finals I would have to play my best.”
D’Agord has now won six of his last seven matches and avenged his only loss in that stretch on Saturday morning. D’Agord lost to Miami’s Josh Cohen in the Round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regionals two weeks ago. Saturday D’Agord defeated Cohen in a rematch 6-3, 7-5.
“I always enjoy playing tennis, but it is definitely more fun when I’m playing well and winning,” D’Agord said.
D’Agord will play Marko Miklow of Virginia in the finals Sunday at 9 a.m.
