TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Senior Daniil Proskura and sophomore Becker O'Shaughnessey earned a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings each as individuals and collectively as a doubles team. Proskura comes in at No. 95 nationally in singles, while O'Shaughnessey following closely behind at No. 100. Together, they rank 15th in the nation in doubles.
Proskura, who played primarily at No. 3 singles a season ago, led the Crimson Tide with 17 singles wins in dual match play after getting off to a 12-0 start. He was the 2013 Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year and winner of the ITA Southern Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award. Over the summer, Proskura earned the first ATP points of his career, leading to a world ranking.
O'Shaughnessey made a name for himself early on as a freshman and played his way to the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup. He tied for the most overall singles wins on the team with 29 and earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team as well as earning Second Team All-SEC honors. Like Proskura, O'Shaughnessey had success over the summer, reaching the quarterfinals of the F21 Futures tournament in Illinois and winning the singles and doubles crowns at the ITA Sumer Circuit event in Tallahassee, Fla.
As a doubles team, Proskura and O'Shaughnessey went 13-3 from the No. 2 position, knocking off four nationally-ranked opponents throughout the 2013 season. The duo won the doubles title at the Futures tournament in Illinois, thus earning another ATP point.
