Rising junior Becker O'Shaughnessey
won his opening match at the BB&T Atlanta Open on Saturday, beating Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico, 6-4, 6-2. With the victory, O'Shaughnessey continues on in the qualifying draw and will take on Kevin King, former All-American from Georgia Tech who is ranked No. 344 in the ATP, not before 11:30 a.m. CT at Atlantic Station.
Incoming freshman Korey Lovett took Argentina's Facundo Mena to three sets, earning a spot in the qualifying draw after winning the wild card challenge earlier in the week, however it would be Mena coming out on top in three sets, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2.
O'Shaughnessey and Lovett will also represent Alabama in main draw doubles after earning a wild card. Main draw matches begin on Monday.
