Men's Tennis Releases 2013-14 Schedule

July 7, 2013

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A variety of new fall tournaments and a host of dual matches against the nation's best competition highlight the 2013-14 men's tennis schedule, which was announced by head coach George Husack on Sunday.

"This season's schedule will both challenge and reward our team from September thru May," said Husack."

The Crimson Tide will kick off its season at one of the few familiar tournaments on this year's slate as it will compete in the Duke Fab Four Invite, Sept. 13-15. From there, some members of the squad will head to Nashville, Tenn., for the SEC Fall Championships, while others will take part in the Napa Valley Classic in Napa, Calif., Sept. 20-22. The ITA All-American Championships will run from Sept. 30-Oct. 6, in Tulsa, Okla., just before Alabama gears up to host the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 10-14. The singles and doubles winners of that tournament will go on to compete in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships Nov. 7-10, in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

A pair of USTA Futures events were also added this year, with the first taking place Oct. 21-27, in Birmingham, Ala., and the second in Niceville, Fla., from Nov. 4-10.

"The fall brings us a variety of tough competition in regional and national collegiate events, as well as a pair of USTA Futures that will prepare us well for a grueling dual match campaign," explained Husack. "We're excited to host the ITA Regional Championships in October and compete at home in front of our fans."

The Tide begins its dual match season on Jan. 18 with a doubleheader against UAB and Southern Miss. Alabama will then head to the West Coast for the 2014 ITA Kick-Off Weekend where it will take on California followed by either Pepperdine or San Diego. The winner of both of its matches that weekend will compete in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship, which is slated for Feb. 14-17, in Houston, Texas.

In addition to UAB and Southern Miss, the Tide's home schedule includes Oklahoma State (Feb. 8), Oklahoma (Feb. 9), Arkansas (March 9), Auburn (March 14), Southern California (March 18), Vanderbilt (March 28), Kentucky (March 30), Georgia (April 11) and Tennessee (March 13).

Additional road matches include Texas (Feb. 1), Mississippi State (Feb. 28), Mississippi (March 2), LSU (March 7), South Carolina (March 21), Florida (March 23) and Texas A&M (April 4).

The Tide will also take part in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, joining Auburn, Boise State, Clemson, Mississippi State, Princeton, Texas Tech and VCU, on Feb. 21-23.

"We will have tremendous opportunities to face some of the best teams in the country in the spring," added Husack. "We will face at least 14 opponents ranked among the Top 25 in last season's year-end rankings, highlighted by a strong SEC and non-conference schedule, as well as a return to the ITA National Indoor Kick-Off and the historic Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. I'm excited to host 20-time NCAA champion USC as well as Top-10 ranked Oklahoma."
