TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The men's tennis team landed one of the top junior players in the nation on Wednesday when head coach George Husack announced the signing of Nikko Madregallejo.
"Nikko is a tremendous addition to our program," said Husack. "I've watched him play for the past several years, and I am excited for the opportunity to coach him at Alabama."
Madregallejo, from Monrovia, Calif., was the No. 1 ranked junior in the country for Boys 12s and 14s, ultimately resulting in selection by the United States Tennis Association to join its National Training Center in Boca Raton, Fla. He spent three years training in Boca Raton, and has remained one of the nation's best, ranking in the top five in Boys 16s and top 15 in Boys 18s.
Madregallejo, rated as a Blue Chip recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, finished third at the 2011 USTA National Tennis Championships and was a finalist that year at the International Spring Championships. In addition, he was chosen to represent the United States for the Junior Davis Cup and World Junior Tennis Championships.
"Nikko's experience with the USTA system is invaluable," added Husack. "He has trained and competed in a variety of high level events both domestically and internationally."
