URBANA, Ill. - Jarryd Botha and David Vieyra will represent the Crimson Tide in the 2013 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which will take place at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Illinois. Singles action for Botha begins Wednesday, while Botha and Vieyra will play their first match in doubles on Thursday.
Botha, who stands at No. 49 in the nation, will face sixth-seeded Emilio Gomez of Southern California in the round of 64. The Crimson Tide senior captain has had a standout season, collecting 28 wins overall in singles, playing primarily at No. 1. Gomez, an All-Pac-12 First Team selection, has also led his team from the No. 1 position and holds an overall mark of 23-7.
Botha and Vieyra, a top-eight seed in the doubles tournament, drew Clemson's 11th-ranked Dominique and Yannick Maden in the first round. Alabama's top-duo began the season unranked, but gradually worked their way up in the rankings after wins over several top-25 opponents. The Maden brothers have won 23 matches together this season and recently knocked off No. 1 Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese from Tennessee in the second round of the NCAA Team Championship.
