By virtue of a top-eight seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, Jarryd Botha and David Vieyra earned ITA All-America honors, becoming the first Crimson Tide duo to do so since 1993. Botha was also an at-large selection to the NCAA Singles Championship and will be the first to represent Alabama in both tournaments in the same season since 2000.
Botha and Vieyra began the season unranked as they did not start playing together until the end of February. The duo entered the national rankings weeks later, thanks to a win over the 24th-ranked team in Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State. Botha and Vieyra gradually worked their way up, knocking off two more top-25 opponents and have won three of their last five matches against opponents from No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 3 Georgia and Arkansas.
In singles, Botha has accumulated a record of 28-12 this season after winning a total of 11 matches a year ago. He has taken down five nationally-ranked opponents, earning him a spot on the All-SEC Second Team. The 2013 team captain, Botha has played primarily at No. 1 all season for the Tide in both singles and doubles.
Alabama's No. 2 duo of Becker O'Shaughnessey and Daniil Proskura were also selected as the second alternate for the NCAA Doubles Championship. The pair has collected an overall record of 12-3, including an 8-2 mark against Southeastern Conference opponents.
The singles and doubles competition will take place May 22-27, at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championships. Draws will be made at a later date.
