TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team (9-3) opens Southeastern Conference play at home this weekend, hosting No. 13 Mississippi (5-2) on Friday at 3 p.m. CT and No. 10 Mississippi State (10-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. Both matches will take place outdoors at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
The Crimson Tide is coming off a dominant weekend in which it defeated both Furman and Southern Miss, 6-1.
Alabama enters SEC play with two players ranked nationally in singles with freshman Becker O'Shaughnessey at No. 85 and senior Jarryd Botha at No. 100. Mississippi's top two singles players, Jonas Lutjen and Nik Scholtz, currently rank No. 5 and No. 12 nationally in singles. The duo holds the No. 5 spot in the nation in doubles as well. As for the Bulldogs, they currently have two nationally ranked players in singles with freshman Romain Bogaerts at No. 23 and Malte Stropp coming in at No. 59. Each of State's three doubles teams are ranked regionally as well, taking up the No. 3, No. 5, and No. 9 spots, respectively.
Mississippi leads the series with Alabama, 32-29, as does Mississippi State, 44-32. The Tide's last win over the Rebels came in 2007 while its last victory over the Bulldogs was in 2010.
