Roll Tide Everyone and welcome to Week 3 of the 2014 season!

The Tide had quite the pair of battles last weekend at the ITA Indoor Regional Kickoff Weekend. Always fun to make the inaugural team road trip of the season and I couldn't think of many prettier places than Malibu, California. The 70+ degree weather, ocean views and sea breeze welcomed Bama at Pepperdine and the change in scenery didn't phase us.

In the opening round we faced a very tough Cal Bears team (the eventual champion of the Regional) and had them positioned nicely against the ropes. After winning the doubles point, we kept the momentum going and seemed destined for the upset. The match would go back and forth however, and we just missed out on the opportunity and lost 4-2. Junior Andrew Goodwin was awarded with game ball honors. While "Goodie" won his doubles match but didn't get a result in singles, his tenacity, energy and resilience were contributing factors not only to his own match but also to his teammates'.

A day later the Tide had to face the Toreros of the University of San Diego who had dropped a tight battle of their own to host Pepperdine. There was a little history to this match as Alabama last faced USD in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Champs (and lost 4-3). This time around we lost the doubles point once again, but unlike last May, we picked up four singles wins and prevailed 4-3. It was a huge win for us especially after having such a physically and mentally draining match with Cal a day earlier.

Sophomore Becker O'Shaughnessey picked up the game ball for not only winning his match but also clinching the victory for the Crimson Tide in a gutsy three set battle where each set went to a tiebreaker and Big Beck prevailed. Some of you might recall watching Becker last year being completely comfortable with his back against the wall and his USD match was no exception to the rule.

So our record stands at 4-1 and we're headed to the Lone Star State of Texas for a match with the #14 Longhorns on Sat, Feb 1 at high noon. While we've been snowed in this past week so to speak, I know we'll be ready to compete against the 'Horns. Mark your calendars for a week from tomorrow as Alabama hosts Oklahoma State at 1pm on Sat, Feb 8 and then come back a day later to host Boomer Sooner of Oklahoma.

It's Big Al's Kids Day for Oklahoma State with a post match hit-around with the men's team and then a FREE brunch will be served compliments of the Hampton Inn on Sunday, Feb 9 at 11am against Oklahoma.

Until next time, I'm sure we all had fun seeing the snow, but let's get some warmer temps!

Roll Tide Roll!
