TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team (6-1) will take on UAB (2-3) and Samford (1-1) on Wednesday in a rare midweek doubleheader in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide will play the Blazers outdoors at the Alabama Tennis Stadium at 1 p.m. while the match against the Bulldogs will be played indoors at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility beginning at 6 p.m. CT.
Alabama is coming off a successful trip to New York where it beat Cornell and Harvard at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The Tide won the doubles point in both matches and got solid play from the top of its lineup as courts 1-3 posted victories against the Big Red and Crimson.
UAB won two of its first three matches of the season but has since dropped a pair of contests to Southeastern Conference opponents in Arkansas and Auburn. The Tide leads the overall series with the Blazers, 17-4, including a 4-0 win at UAB last season.
Samford opened its season with a 5-2 win over Austin Peay at home but fell by the same score at Georgia State last weekend. Wednesday's meeting will be the 41st between the Tide and Bulldogs all-time, with Alabama holding a 31-9 advantage in the series. Last season's match in Birmingham came down to the wire, but the Tide would end up edging out Samford, 4-3, with junior Daniil Proskura clinching the win.
