The men’s tennis team heads to Winston Salem, N.C., this weekend for the Wake Forest Spring Invite, which will run Jan. 26-27, at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Crimson Tide is one of four teams at the event, joining Penn State, New Mexico and the host Demon Deacons.
Alabama is coming off a pair of 7-0 shutouts in its first two dual matches of the 2013 season, beating Alabama State and Jackson State on Jan. 19. The Tide won four of the six doubles matches, while the other two were suspended once the point was clinched, and took all 12 singles matches in straight sets. Following the first weekend of play, Alabama senior Jarryd Botha remains at No. 79 in the national singles standings.
The Nittany Lions head into the weekend at 1-2, however their two losses came in 4-3 fashion against North Carolina State and Cornell. The Lobos have played one match thus far, posting a 7-0 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi and have one nationally-ranked singles player in sophomore Samir Iftikhar (73). After wins over Winthrop, Charlotte and East Tennessee State, the Demon Deacons enter with a 3-0 record, and have only dropped one singles decision throughout the three matches. Wake Forest has two singles players ranked nationally in seniors Amogh Prabhakar (59) and Danny Kreyman (90).
