Men's Tennis Collects 14 Victories on Saturday at Crimson Tide Fall Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team collected 14 wins on the second day of play at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships on Saturday. The Tide now has a combined 29 victories for the tournament thus far. Match play began with the final round of doubles where Alabama came away with wins in two matches. Carlos Taborga and Rens van der Vis won their draw with an 8-6 victory over South Alabama's Daniel Leitner and Blake Gregor. Stuart Kenyon and Brian Conlon would also win their draw finals in 8-6 fashion, topping South Alabama's Shayann Vaezzadeh and Alex Bernard. In singles, the Tide won 12 matches, sending three of its players to their respective draw finals. Jarryd Botha won both of his matches in straight sets, beating Middle Tennessee's Christoph Lang, 7-6(2), 6-4, and Tulane's Dominik Koepfer, 6-4, 7-5. Harris Barnard and van der Vis will meet in the finals of their draw on Sunday, as Barnard advanced with wins over Cedric Rutsaert of Tulane and Michael Wardell of Auburn, while van der Vis collected victories over Samford's Austin Akers and Furman's Richard Casagrande. David Vieyra won both of his matches on Saturday, posting a 6-4, 7-5 win over Ben Horst from Furman and a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2) victory over Anton Ivanov of West Alabama. The Tide's remaining four players each won one of their two matches as Proskura topped Furman's Cook, 6-2, 6-0, Becker O'Shaughnessey beat South Alabama's Daniel Leitner, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, Carlos Taborga outlasted UAB's Chris Helliar, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 while Stuart Kenyon beat Luke Synn of Furman, 7-5, 7-6(7). The final round of singles matches will be played at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday.
