AUBURN, Ala. - The men's tennis team added another eight wins on Friday, bringing its two-day total to 16 victories, at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships being held at the Yarbrough Tennis Center and the Auburn University Intramural Courts. The Crimson Tide picked up three of its wins in doubles and another five in singles.

"Overall, we were successful in spots today, particularly in doubles," said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. "We also lost a few in singles that I felt we could win. Nonetheless, it was another positive performance, and we'll look forward to getting back out there tomorrow."

In doubles, three of the Tide's four teams moved on with wins in the second round. Junior Jarryd Botha and freshman Rens van der Vis posted an 8-6 decision over UAB's team of Danny Manlow and Chris Helliar, as did sophomores Daniil Proskura and Carlos Taborga over Mississippi's Joe Rogers and Adrian Skogeng. Also notching a win in doubles for Alabama were seniors Vikram Reddy and Michael Thompson, with an 8-2 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette's Rick DeGroot and Wanich Mandl. Junior Harris Barnard and freshman Stuart Kenyon took on Auburn's Dennis Lengsfeld and Dan Cochrane, where the Tiger duo came out with the 8-4 win.

In singles, Reddy kicked off the day with a big win, topping the tournament's overall No. 1 seed in Mississippi State's George Coupland, 6-1, 6-4, and followed that up with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback victory over the Bulldogs' Zach White.

"Vikram has a great day two," added Pate. "He had two good wins in singles while playing really strong doubles."

Botha added a win in his first match of the day, posting a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(12) win over LSU's James Turbevill, but Botha would end up falling 6-2, 6-4, to Mississippi State's Louis Cant in the next round.

Also representing the Tide in the main draw was Proskura, Kenyon and Thompson, who each bowed out following the third round. Proskura took on a top-eight seed in Tulane's Idan Mark, who won 6-3, 6-4, while Kenyon dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Helliar. Thompson took on Auburn's Andreas Mies, falling 6-1, 6-2 to the Tiger netter.

In the consolation singles draw, Taborga posted a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette's Carl Alberton, sending the Tide sophomore on to face LSU's Roger Anderson in the following round where Taborga came out on top 6-1, 6-3.
