Men's Tennis Picks up Eight more wins at Southern Regionals on Friday

AUBURN, Ala. - It was another full day of tennis in Auburn at the 2012 USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships where the men's tennis team earned eight wins, bringing its two-day total to 13 victories. Three Crimson Tide doubles teams are still alive in the main draw, while Becker O'Shaughnessey remains in the main draw of singles.
The second day of the tournament opened with two rounds of singles, both in the main and consolation draws. In the main draw, O'Shaughnessey topped a pair of seeded players to advance to the quarterfinals. His first victory of the day came against LSU's Olivier Borsos, the tournament's No. 3 seed and the 18th-ranked player in the nation, by a score of 6-2, 1-0, ret., while O'Shaughnessey's came from behind in his second match to beat Mississippi's Stefan Lindmark, 1-6, 7-6(9), 6-3. Jarryd Botha also picked up a win in his first match of the day in the main draw, beating UAB's Rafael Rondino, 7-6(1), 6-2, before falling to the No. 6 seed in the Rebels' William Kallberg, 6-4, 6-2.
In the consolation draw, Stuart Kenyon earned two wins for himself, beating Tulane's Iain Sneddon, 6-4, 6-2, and South Alabama's Shaynne Vaezzadeh, 6-4, 6-1.
The Tide wrapped up play on Friday in doubles, where it added another three wins to its total. O'Shaughnessey and Botha were scheduled to play the LSU duo of Joe Hill and Bowtell, but instead advanced by virtue of a walkover. Conlon and Kenyon recorded a win over Mississippi's Adrian Skogeng and Lindmark, while David Vieyra and Daniil Proskura tallied an 8-3 victory against Tulane's Ian Van Cott and Ohashi Takumi.
Matches will resume on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The schedule of play includes two rounds of consolation singles, the quarterfinals of the singles main draw and two rounds of doubles.
