TULSA, Okla. - Senior Mathieu Thibaudeau beat Juan Gomez of San Diego State 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 for a trip to the third, and final, round of qualifying action at the D’Novo/ITA Men’s All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Should Thibaudeau win tomorrow, he will advance to the main draw of the Championships.

“Mathieu started off slow today but found his game towards the end of the second set and played a great third set,” said assistant coach Bo Hodge. “Hopefully he can play the way he did in his third set today in the last round of qualifying tomorrow.”

In the singles consolation draw, senior Dan Buikema dropped his match to California’s Kallim Stewart 6-3, 6-2. Buikema will have tomorrow off before starting doubles play with Thibaudeau in the event’s main draw on Thursday.

“Dan ran into an opponent who just played some great tennis today,” said Hodge. “Everything Dan did, Stewart had an answer for.”
