ATHENS, Ga. - The men’s tennis team added six wins Saturday in another long day of play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships bringing the Crimson Tide’s win total to 12 at the tournament. One of Alabama’s wins was earned in doubles, with junior Michael Thompson and sophomore Jarryd Botha advancing to the quarterfinals of the Division I draw, while the remaining five victories came in singles action.

"There were many positives again today in several areas,” Alabama head coach Billy Pate said. “Ian and Michael continue to display the type of energy and aggressiveness we want to see in doubles. Jarryd (Botha) hit the ball well this week and had a very close match with a highly-ranked opponent."

The day began with singles play with Botha notching a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Stetson junior Maksim Levanovich in the Division I Round of 32. Botha would be matched up with the tournament’s overall No. 1 seed in Georgia Tech senior Guillermo Gomez in the Round of 16 where Gomez would come out on top 6-4, 6-4.

In Division II singles, junior Vikram Reddy battled Winthrop senior Dejon Bievns for a 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 victory in the Round of 32 but was stopped up in his second match by Eastern Kentucky junior Hugo Klientovsky 7-6, 7-6(3). Junior Ricky Doverspike had an easy time with Mercer senior Evandro Rosindo recording a 6-3, 6-3 win before falling to Georgia Tech senior Ryan Smith 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Thompson was matched up with Georgia State freshman Thomas Cook in the Round of 32 where the Panther netter won 6-3, 6-2.

Chadwell competed in the Division II Consolation draw after dropping his match Friday and came back strong winning a close 7-6(5), 6-4 decision over Samford senior Carl Abalos.

In the Division III Main draw, freshman Carlos Taborga fell to Tennessee sophomore 6-2, 7-6, while senior Trey Walston dropped a 6-1, 7-6 decision to Samford junior Mark Lange in the Consolation draw.

Play resumes Sunday at 8:30 a.m. CT for the Tide as Chadwell takes on Winthrop sophomore Liran Levy in singles. Chadwell and Thompson are scheduled to take the court at 10:30 a.m. CT in doubles.
