The men's tennis team roped in seven wins on Saturday at the Duke Fab Four Invite, bringing its two-day total to 11 victories at the tournament. The Crimson Tide earned two wins in doubles, while the remaining five came in singles.
Action began at the Cary Tennis Park with the final round of doubles, where both Alabama teams came up on the winning end. The Tide's 33rd-ranked duo of Daniil Proskura and Carlos Taborga picked up an 8-4 victory over Virginia Tech's Mauricio Antun and Aaron Gomez, while Jarryd Botha and Becker O'Shaughnessey took down Elon's Jordan Kaufman and Brian Kowalski, 8-3.
In singles, Botha won both of his matches by 6-3, 6-3 decisions, first against William & Mary's Ben Hoogland, followed by Kentucky's Juan-Pablo Murra. O'Shaughnessey dropped his first match to 111th-ranked Fred Saba of Duke, 6-2, 6-4, before coming back in his second appearance of the day to knock off No. 52 Alexis Huegas of Virginia Commonwealth, 7-6(1), 6-1. Proskura, ranked 59th in singles, won his first match of the day, beating Kowalski, 6-2, 6-3, but was then topped in a three-setter by 76th-ranked Raphael Hemmeler of Duke, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. Taborga also went 1-1 in singles on Saturday, losing his first match, 6-0, 6-1, to No. 125 Austin Powell of NC State, before outlasting Virginia Tech's Marko Lovrinovic, 6-4, 7-6(5).
The Duke Fab Four Invite will conclude on Sunday with the final round of singles. Matches are slated to begin at 8 a.m. CT.
