Men's Tennis Wins 4-3 Thriller at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Stuart Kenyon overcame a first-set loss to clinch Alabama's 4-3 win in three sets at LSU on Friday afternoon. The Crimson Tide junior was edged out 7-6 in the opening frame before coming back to win the next two, 7-5, 6-4, to help Alabama to the victory.

"Today was quite the battle, both physically and mentally," said Alabama head coach George Husack. "We've been on the other end of some of these tight matches, so it's nice to get the win."

With the win, the Tide improves to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in Southeastern Conference action. The loss drops the Tigers to 6-6 on the season and 0-3 against league opponents.

Alabama won a close doubles point, earning the wins on courts one and three. The Tide's top duo of Daniil Proskura and Becker O'Shaughnessey were first to finish, beating LSU's Boris Arias and Chris Simpson, 8-6. Andrew Goodwin and Kenyon secured the point on court three, topping the Tigers' Eric Perez and Andrew Korinek, also by an 8-6 score.

O'Shaughnessey climbed his way back after an early deficit on court two in the first set to win 6-4, 6-4 over Arias, giving the Tide a 2-0 advantage overall. LSU won the next two matches, first on court five, then on court six, to even the score. Nikko Madregallejo came away with his fourth victory in a row, topping Korinek, 6-3, 6-4, from court three. The Tigers then won on court one with Simpson outlasting Proskura 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, setting up for the decisive point on court four which was awarded to Kenyon.

"We had our two captains on court down the stretch, and today it was Stuart's turn to lead us to victory," added Husack. "I'm very happy for him and the others that chalked up wins. It's back to work tomorrow and back to the battlefield on Sunday."

Alabama will be back in action on Sunday, hosting a doubleheader against Arkansas at 1 p.m. CT and The Citadel at 6 p.m. CT. the first 50 fans in attendance will receive a Built by Bama wristband. The Crimson Tide will also host a block party with free pizza on hand for all fans after the first set of singles.
