WESTON, Fla. -
Three men’s tennis players competed in round three of the qualifying singles draw at the Futures at Midtown Weston on Sunday where the trio of Crimson Tide netters fell to their respective opponents.
“This trip was a good experience for us,” Alabama Head Coach Billy Pate said. “It was beneficial to get outdoors in some nice conditions and play good competition. We had some positive results and took a big step towards being ready for our dual match opener.”
Alabama sophomore Ian Chadwell took on 12th-seeded Jack Carpenter of England, with Carpenter coming out on top 6-2, 7-6(4) to advance to the finals. Also competing on Sunday was junior Vikram Reddy, who dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Andrei Daescu, the tournament’s No. 5 seed from Romania. In addition, sophomore Jarryd Botha competed, falling 7-5, 6-1 to the United State’s Nathaniel Gorham.
Alabama opens up its dual match slate Saturday when it heads to Austin, Texas for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Kick-off Weekend. The Tide will take on Rice in the first round beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
