TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama men's golf team moved up three spots in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' poll that was released on Thursday.
Head coach Jay Seawell's team moved from No. 6 to No. 3 after a strong performance at the UCF Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in late October. The Crimson Tide finished ahead of five other top 10 teams en route to a second place finish behind this week's No. 1 team, Georgia.
The Bulldogs replaced Oklahoma State at the top of the polls and garnered 23 of a possible 24 first-place votes and 599 total points. The Cowboys were second with 543 points and the Crimson Tide third with 533. Southern California received the other first-place vote and finished with 531 total points. Stanford rounded out the top five with 455 points.
Alabama and Georgia lead a contingent of six Southeastern Conference schools in the top 25 with Arkansas at No. 9 (335), Florida at No. 12 (277), South Carolina at No. 14 (251) and Tennessee at No. 16 (193). LSU, Auburn and Mississippi are also receiving votes this week.
The Crimson Tide posted a strong fall schedule with a win at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, a second-place showing at the UFC Isleworth Collegiate Invitational, a fifth-place finish at the Ping/Golfweek Preview and a sixth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic.
Alabama opens its spring slate on Feb. 22, 2009, at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
