TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The top-ranked Alabama men's golf team is back in action this weekend at the PING/Golfweek Fall Preview. The par-72, 7,137-yard Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, Ga., will host the elite of the nation's collegiate golf teams.
The 54-hole Fall Preview begins on Sunday, Sept. 23, and wraps up on Tuesday, Sept. 25, with 18 holes played daily.
Since the tournament's beginnings in 1989, the Fall Preview has sought to bring the nation's top teams together for one tournament, played at the site of the spring's NCAA Championships. This year, the tournament is hosted by Georgia Tech at the Capital City Club's Crabapple Course, located in Atlanta, Ga.
The field of the 2012 PING/Golfweek Fall Preview is one of the deepest fields of any tournament this season, with the nation's top-five teams competing and 14 of 15 teams ranked in the Golf World/Nike Golf Men's Division I Coaches Poll.
Joining the top-ranked Crimson Tide are No. 2 Texas, No. 3 California, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Washington, No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 13 UNLV, No. 16 Florida State, No. 17 San Diego State, No. 18 Kent State, No. 19 Georgia, No. 23 New Mexico and Chattanooga.
Alabama head coach Jay Seawell's lineup will feature sophomore Justin Thomas, juniors Cory Whitsett and Bobby Wyatt along with seniors Scott Strohmeyer and Lee Knox.
In the first tournament this fall, the Crimson Tide finished third at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. Alabama finished 1-over-par 865 in the 54-hole event.
