FORT WORTH, Texas - Alabama senior Bobby Wyatt and freshman Robby Shelton have been named as two of 10 semifinalists for the 2014 Ben Hogan Award presented by the Colonial Country Club, The Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
One of the most prestigious awards in men's collegiate golf, the Hogan is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.
Shelton, a true freshman from Wilmer, Ala., leads the Crimson Tide in scoring average at 70.48 and is 17-under par for the season. He has two medalist honors with wins at the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational and the Puerto Rico Classic to go along with six top-five finishes in nine events. Shelton ranks second in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and fourth in the Golfstat.com ranking.
Wyatt, from Mobile, Ala., ranks ninth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and 11th by Golfstat.com. He is second on the team with a 71.13 scoring average and is 1-over par for the year. He boasts eight top-10 finishes in nine events this season.
Other semifinalists include SMU's Bryson Dechambeau, UCF's Greg Eason, Georgia's Joey Garber, California's Brandon Hagy, Washington's Chen-Tsung Pan, Stanford's Patrick Rodgers, Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans and Stanford's Cameron Wilson.
