BRYAN, Texas - The second-ranked Alabama men's golf team will play in the 2013 Aggie Invitational this weekend at The Traditions Club, a par-72, 7,146-yard layout that is home to the Texas A&M Aggies.
It marks the first time the Crimson Tide has participated in the event and the final regular-season tournament for Alabama before postseason play. The SEC Men's Golf Championship is slated for April 19-21 in St. Simon Island, Ga.
Alabama will to play with host Texas A&M and No. 5 UCLA on Saturday and is scheduled to tee off the first hole at 7:30 a.m. The 54-hole tournament will consist of 36 holes (two rounds) on Saturday and a final-18 holes on Sunday.
Alabama head coach Jay Seawell will start the same five-man lineup - Justin Thomas, Cory Whitsett, Bobby Wyatt, Trey Mullinax and Scott Strohmeyer - that won the Linger Longer Invitational last month at this weekend's Aggie Invitational.
The entire 12-team Aggie Invitational field is receiving votes in the most recent Golf World/Nike Coaches' Poll. There are 10 teams ranked inside the top 30, including the second-ranked Crimson Tide, No. 4 Washington, No. 5 UCLA, No. 12 Duke, No. 14 Oklahoma State, No. 15 LSU, No. 19 Arkansas, No. 21 Kent State, No. 27 Texas A&M and No. 28 Texas Tech along with No. 32 Oklahoma and No. 36 North Texas.
The Crimson Tide's starting lineup boasts four players inside the top 16 in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, including Thomas at No. 7, Whitsett at No. 8, Wyatt at No. 12 and Mullinax at No. 16. Both Thomas and Whisett are averaging below par for the season.
