STOCKBRIDGE, GA. - Lars Brovold collected his sixth top 10 finish out of ten tournament appearances this season when the University of Alabama golfer finished fifth Tuesday at Georgia State University's Atlanta Intercollegiate.
The 54-hole tournament, which began with two rounds on Monday and concluded with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, was held at Eagles Landing Country Club, a par 72 layout in Stockbridge, Ga.
Alabama finished 8th in the final team standings, stumbling on the final day to drop from fifth to eighth. Alabama shot 285-285-293/864. Florida successfully defended its 2003 championship at the Atlanta Intercollegiate, carding 279-276-284/839 to win the team championship. The Gators' Camilo Villegas also repeated as individual champion. He finished two strokes ahead of his teammate Jessie Mudd, with Villegas scoring 69-67-69/204.
Brovold had Alabama's best individual scores, shooting 69-67-73/209 to finish in fifth place. Clint Provost shot 68-74-75/217 to finish T-24th. Lance Walker shot 73-73-76/222 to finish T-37th. Max Alverio finished T-45th after carding 75-71-79/225, and Austin Hynson finished T-56th after shooting scores of 76-75-79/230.
Alabama has little turnaround time before its next event. The team will remain in the state of Georgia this week during the university's Spring Break week as Alabama will compete next at the April 3-4 Augusta State University Invitational. That tournament will be played at Forest Hills Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
