Justin Thomas and Alabama Earn National Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The second-ranked Alabama men's golf was named the Golfweek Team of the Week and Justin Thomas was selected as the publication's Player of the Week following the Schenkel Invitational this past weekend.
The Crimson Tide posted a 10-shot victory over fourth-ranked Texas with a 16-under-par total of 848. UA fired rounds of 282, 281 and 285 for the team's third victory of the season. Alabama is ranked second in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
Alabama has won two of three events this spring with a runner-up finish at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. The Crimson Tide also won the Puerto Rico Classic.
Justin Thomas, from Goshen, Ky., was named the Golfweek National Player of the Week after shooting 9-under-par 207 for a three-shot win over Texas' Brandon Stone. Thomas opened with a 67 and followed it up with 2-under-par rounds of 70
It was Thomas' sixth career tournament victory, which moved him past former Tide great and PGA professional Steve Lowery for the most wins in Alabama golf history. It took Lowery 44 events to set the record of five and Thomas only 20-career events to win his sixth medalist honor. Thomas leads the team with a 70.83 scoring average and is cumulative 13-under-par for the season.
Alabama returns to action this weekend looking for its third straight team title at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
