TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Fresh off their 18-stroke victory in the Puerto Rico Classic, the No. 3 Alabama men's golf team travels to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters this weekend.
The tournament will begin on Friday, March 9, with the 54-hole event wrapping up on Sunday, March 11.The Crimson Tide is scheduled to tee off at 9:45 a.m. (CST) in Friday's first round.
Played on the 7,510-yard, par-72 Southern Highlands Golf Club, the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters will feature many of the nation's elite golf teams, with four of the top five teams nationally in the field while 11 of the 15 teams are ranked in the top 25.
The field features No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Southern California, No. 5 UCLA, No. 9 California, No. 11 Stanford, host No. 12 UNLV, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 16 Duke, No. 23 Florida and defending champions No. 25 Oklahoma State. Also playing this weekend are Texas Tech, Arizona State, New Mexico State and TCU.
In addition to the team title in Puerto Rico, freshman Justin Thomas took home low medalist honors, shooting a 10-under-par for his second collegiate victory. With the recent win, Thomas is now ranked in number 4 in the recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Through five collegiate tournaments, Thomas's stroke average comes in at 70.87, the highest on the team.
Head coach Jay Seawell will start the same five that won in Puerto Rico including Thomas, Hunter Hamrick, Trey Mullinax, Cory Whitsett and Bobby Wyatt.
